My day began beautifully!
I've never been to the Tulip Festival before so Dillon took me this morning before I had to work.
I wasn't sure what we were going to do for 2 hours out in the tulip fields, but it turned out to be a really fun day.
The pictures below are from the first field we went to...which was by far the most impressive in terms of size. And of course, after I took a few photos, my camera died. Typical.
The other tulip field we went to was more visitor-friendly and even though it was smaller, there were hundreds of varieties of tulips and each one was labeled. Whoever got to name each tulip had a fun job.
Did I mention we found an espresso stand? Washington spoils me :)
Other highlights of the day: sunshine and riding my bike to work.

Arielle Dombasle
I just finished watching 'Pauline a la Plage', which was promoted on Netflix as a comedy...
I can honestly say I didn't laugh once. Maybe that's just my American sense of humor, right?
However, I fell in love with Arielle Dombasle's style in this movie:
Such a feminine beauty.
And I especially loved the scene when they go to Mont Saint Michel for the day!!

content
Life is a whirlwind.
I had a midterm today, I'm working on papers, staying busy with work and volunteering, and spring quarter just amped my social life.
I'm planning a trip to San Francisco next month, what I'm going to do this summer (in terms of a job and a house), and my study abroad trip to France.
I'm so happy with this fast-paced life. I mean, look at the view:

'Stuffed and Starved'
I just read Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food and it rocked my world.
I feel like I already have a good sense of the world food system and America's agriculture/meat industry. I've read 'Fast Food Nation', seen Food Inc. and King Korn, and watched various interviews with experts from both sides. I've even had a few classes touch on the subject.
And yet...this book hit it home. I am consciously aware that I am a consumer perpetuating an unhealthy system...not just in terms of human health, but in economics, in psychology, in politics, in social circles, and environmentally. Nutritionism has been accepted as 'the way things are' as it has infiltrated America in the last 40 years. But I want things to change. I want to change.
Obviously I would recommend In Defense of Food wholeheartedly to anyone and everyone. Precisely because I think in every issue, people should have the facts and make decisions for themselves.
Next on my reading list is Stuffed and Starved by Raj Patel. Contradicting, huh?
Think twice: "Today, when we produce more food than ever before, more than one in ten people on Earth are hungry. The hunger of 800 million happens at the same time as another historical first: that they are outnumbered by the one billion people on this planet who are overweight"
I'm being challenged. It's nice.

spring quarter
Spring quarter is in the air.
Which means new classes: French 203, Political Deliberation, and Political Ecology of the World Food System
And only 9 weeks left. No matter how they go, no matter what happens, I will be moving home after spending an entire year in Seattle. In 9 weeks.
The brevity puts perspective on everything I do...on every relationship, on every class assignment, on every opportunity given to me.
Spring quarter will be bomb and I plan on filling it to the brim.
